The Growth of LITERACY in Karaikal is better level. To avoid dropouts Morning BREAK-FAST, MID-DAY MEALS SCHEMES were introduced. There is a wide network of Educational Institutions right from the Elementary level to Collegiate level in Karaikal region.

In ELEMENTARY Level: Pre-Primary Schools and Primary Schools; In SECONDARY level Middle, Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools, and one Jawahar NAVODAYA Vidyalaya are running. Among the DEGREE level, 2 Arts & Science Colleges including one for Women are functioning. In PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES, one Agricultural College & Research Institute (PAJANCOA & RI) runs by Government, and 1 Engineering College, 1 Medical College and Research Institute are running by Private.

In respect of TECHNICAL and TRAINING INSTITUTES, two Industrial Training Institutes for men and women are run by the Labour Department.  B.Ed. College are running by Government whereas one Teacher Training Institute is by Private. Moreover, one Govt. Polytechnic (PIPMATE), & a Special Training School for Driving are also functioning by the Transport department. A Nurse Training Course has been started recently by Private concern.

FRENCH, HINDI, URDU Education, CULTURAL TRAINING, Other Language Courses, University Study Centres, Leading Computer Training Institutes, etc. are also available. Apart from a Central LIBRARY in Karaikal, 18 villages viz. T.R.Pattinam, Melaiyur, Neravy, Oozhiapathu, Vizhithiyur, Akkaraivattam, Thirunallar, Sellur, Sethur, Nallambal, Ambagarathur, Surakudy, Nedungadu, Kurumbagaram, Poovam, Kottucherry, Nehru Nagar and Karaikal Medu  are having  Branch Libraries controlled by department of Art & Culture.

Extra curriculam: Separate units for N.C.C in Army and Navel Wings, National Service Scheme, Scouts are useful for students.  Sports complex for games, Sports Clubs, Health Clubs are running for others also.
