The Tourism Department, Pondicherry was bifurcated from Information and Publicity Department during the year 1986. Since then the Tourism Department is functioning separately. The Govt. Tourist Home, Kovilpathu, Karaikal, and VIP suite, suitated in the Regional Executive Officer's campus are under the control of the Tourism Department.

The Govt. Tourist Home Kovilpathu, was constructed during the year 1964 and the VIP suite during the year 1977.

FUNCTIONS / OBJECTIVES

 * To provide convenient and comfortable accomodation for the V.V.I.P / VIP's and   tourists visiting Karaikal.

 *  To provide Tourist Information to the visiting tourists

 *  To develop / Beautify the Karaikal Beach in order to attract more tourists and provide entertainment and recreational activities.
