ARRANGEMNETS FOR MANGANI FESTIVAL DRAWN

Karaikal: The Mangani Festival of  the famous Karaikal Ammaiyar Koil will be celebrated from 08-07-2006 to 11-07-2006. Elaborate arrangements to conduct the festival in grand manner has been chalked out in a meeting held under the Chairmanship of the District Collector, Karaikal yesterday in the Collector’s Chamber. The meeting was attended by Ammaiyar Koil Authorities, Peace Committee Members, and officials of  the District Administration.

The festival will begin with Vinayagar Pooja on 08-07-2006. The famous Thirukalyanam of the Karaikal Ammaiyar is scheduled to be held at 11.00 A.M on   09-07-2006 and the Pitchandavar Procession on 10th July 2006 at 9.15 A.M.  The PASIC Authorities have been asked to procure huge quantities of mangoes on the occasion of Pitchandavar Procession during which devotees throw mangoes. The Electricity Department has been asked to switch off the light in the early morning on 11th July 2006 for a while as a part of ceremony.

It was decided to sanitize the temple tank and surrounding area during the festival. The Municipality and the Public Works Department (I&PH) will jointly undertake cleanliness drive ahead of the festival. The Temple Authorities informed the Collector, Karaikal  that the Temple Tank has become a dumping ground by the neighbourhood people and is unkept by the Municipality.  To this, the Public Works Department (I&PH) Authorities informed the gathering that a project for renovation of temple tank at an estimated cost of Rs.1 Crore has been taken up with the Government. It is expected the project will be clear after the Civic Elections. 

Fire Fighting equipments / Vehicles will be positioned round the clock during the festival period. It was also decided to minimize usage of thatched leaves for construction of stalls / pandal as far as possible. Instead, tin roofs will be provided in the stalls to avoid causing fire. The Collector also requested to desist from fixing of postures here and there and to organise other means of publicity appropriately.
