JUDGING COUNCILLORS BY PERFORMANCE Karaikal: To foster competitiveness among ward Councillors with regard to their commitment to provide clean, well-kept, Municipal Wards, the Karaikal Municipal Administration has decided to institute awards in this category. These unique awards will be given to the best maintained Municipal ward, and best maintained Nagar / locale in collaboration with Residents Welfare Association in the municipal area. The decision to effect has been taken in a meeting held at the Chairmanship of Collector, Karaikal yesterday. The award winning Councillors, (1st and 2nd) will be felicitated in the Independent Day ceremony on 15th August 2006. A committee comprising prominent citizen, Government officers, businessmen will be the jury for selecting the award winning ward and Nagar. Timely removal of garbage, mosquito control, sanitation, solid waste management, well kept and cleaned drainage system, Poster / Bill board - free streets, number of trees lining inner roads, avenues, provision of drinking water, un interrupted power supply, health care facility, number of / availability of parks, garden , walk – ways, play grounds, maintenance of municipal roads, special care / provision if any for Senior Citizens, implementation of urban poverty alleviation programmes, management of burial grounds, street lights, parking lots, bus stops and public conveniences, regulation of slaughter houses etc are the criteria for judging the best ward within the municipal area. The involvement of Resident Welfare Association in taking up issue of relating to Public awareness, clean – green, environment etc will also constitute their selection for awards among other factors. It may be noted that in Karaikal with the Election of local body representatives after gap of 38 years the expectations of the general public has grown many fold with regard to their requirement for better Civic Administration . |
