Industries and Commerce

Karaikal region is fastly developing with more industries are coming and starting their establishment in this area. The Industries Department has been encouraging new industries by giving tax holiday and also subsidies. Taking advantage of the above subsidies various industrial giants have started their industries here.  Some of the notable industries functioning in Karaikal region are Sowndararaja mills. Henkel Spic, Johnson Tiles, Regma Ceramic Tiles, Murudeswar ceramics, M/s Chemplast  Sanmar, Karaikal chlorates etc. Also one port completely under private management is functioning at Vanjoor village under the banner of Karaikal Port(MARG). The said port plays a vital role in importing and transporting coal by road/rail to other regions. One Spinning mill (Jayaprakash Narayanan Spinning Mill) and also Gas Power Plant at T.R.Pattinam is being run by Govt. of Puducherry.  ONGC has set up main office and central go-down at Neravy, Karaikal. District Industries Centre was started during 1978 itself with a motto to train the unemployed youth in basic skills to enable them to take up self employment. Training is also imparted to them in the field of Coir works Mat making etc. The Department also taking steps  to get them Bank Loans with subsidies so that they can stand on their legs.
